St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Monthly)
On the last day of every month, a donation is automatically made from SoundRabbit’s bank account to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a gift from the Backstage Community. St. Jude is one of the leading children’s hospitals in the world, treating children with cancer, ALS, and other illnesses – and no family is ever turned away for inability to pay. The only way they can do this is through support like ours, so thanks to all of you for joining us in this great effort!
Colorado Coalition For The Homeless (December 31, 2015)
We made our annual $500 donation today on behalf of the Backstage Community. Thank you for helping us help a great cause at this chilly time of year!
Michelle Wilkins Fund (Mar 25, 2015)
We made a $200 donation today on behalf of the Backstage Community to the Michelle Wilkins Fund on GoFundMe. We encourage any of you who are willing and able, to do the same here. Michelle was 7 months pregnant when she responded to a Craig’s List ad for baby clothes last week. She went to the home to pick up the clothes and was attacked by a deranged woman who had posted the fake ad as part of an ambush to steal the baby. You can read the full, awful story on the GoFundMe page… we send our love and strength to Michelle and her family.
Colorado Coalition For The Homeless (Dec 23, 2014)
We made our annual $500 donation today on behalf of the Backstage Community, and the Coalition thanks each and every one of you for your support (they always send us a nice card after the donation is received).
ASLSA.org (August 14, 2014)
The ice bucket frenzy is awesome, and we made a $100 donation to ASLSA.org this week on behalf of the Backstage Community.
With A Little Help From Our Friends (March 10, 2014)
A member of the local music community is dealing with a potential cancer diagnosis (test results pending) and we heard through the grapevine that she was behind on medical bills. A page was set up to gather funds and we made a $300 donation on behalf of the Backstage Community. Sending love and strength her way, and hoping for the best news possible.
Colorado Red Cross (September 14, 2013)
We made a $500 donation to the Colorado Red Cross Disaster Relief fund to help victims of this week’s 100-year flood here in our home state. We played a show in Louisville (CO) and agreed to match dollar-for-dollar the donations of the audience, and their generosity helped us reach the $500 mark. Our thoughts and love go out to our friends and neighbors and fellow residents this week.
Common Ground Healing Arts Center in Charlottesville, VA (June 5, 2012)
We made a second donation to the Common Ground Healing Arts Center – so far they’ve provided over $200,000 in services to underprivileged families.
Richard Family Fund – Boston, Massachusetts (Apr 24, 2013)
SoundRabbit was on tour on the East Coast when the Boston Marathon was hit by a terrorist attack, with two explosions near the finish line that killed 3 people and injured more than 200. These people were innocently cheering on their family and friends who were crossing after 4-5 hours of running. The Boston Marathon is particularly personal for Russ, as he grew up in the town (Hopkinton) where the Marathon’s starting line is painted on Main Street each year, and “Marathon Monday” is the biggest day of the year for the little town. We were en route to Burlington, Vermont when we got the word, and followed the story through the week as our Boston show approached on Friday. We had friends who were at the finish line when it happened, and who were thankfully not hurt, but who had to deal with the emotional and psychological effects of seeing that carnage and helping the wounded. We found out that one of the 3 killed was an 8 year old boy who was watching the race with his family. His mom and sister were with him and were badly injured, the 7 year old sister losing a leg. We heard about a fund set up by a local bank (“Salem Five”) for the family, and so we committed to donating $500 to it, and asked our fans to donate as well, which added another $50… a check for $550 was sent to the fund on April 24th, 2013.
Relay for Life Event at Doane College in Crete, NE (Apr 12, 2013)
Doane College has been a favorite tour stop for us for a few years now, and we were excited to be able to donate our time to one of their largest events of the year – their annual Relay for Life, raising funds with the American Cancer Society to help fight cancer. In 2012 they raised over $75,000 – incredible! We played in the center of the gym while the participants walked around the building, raising money through sponsorships. Very, very cool.
Common Ground Healing Arts Center in Charlottesville, VA (Dec 2, 2012)
The city of Charlottesville, Virginia has been super supportive of SoundRabbit over the years, and we had the chance to give a little back this week as some great friends of ours announced a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to open a wellness center that offers services like yoga, acupuncture, massage, and homeopathic medicine on a sliding price scale, meaning that people from across the socioeconomic spectrum can come in and receive therapy, in some cases complimentary (for the poorest of the poor). They’re planning to grand open the place in January, so we hope to stop by and see the fruits of their labor and our collective support on our tour in April. We donated $350 this afternoon to help them reach their goal.
Colorado Coalition For The Homeless (Nov 29, 2012)
Every winter we make a donation to the CCFTH, as the temps start to fall and we do what we can to put a roof over the heads of the less fortunate. We donated $500 today, and the Coalition thanks each and every one of you for your support (they always send us a nice card after the donation is received).
A Piano For The Kids (Oct 10, 2012)
Today we were psyched to donate a full size, 88-key Kurzweil electric piano to a local school with kids from kindergartners to 5th graders who will be able to use it in their growing music program (this was the first major instrument they have for the program). Rock on, kiddos!
Pink Elephant Posse (Sep 6, 2012)
On September 6, 2012, SoundRabbit partnered with the blissful sisters of Shine in downtown Boulder to host a benefit concert and party for Pink Elephant Posse, a non-profit dedicated to supporting young cancer patients and survivors.
From PEP’s website:
Pink Elephant Posse inspires, empowers, and connects young people affected by cancer through exciting events, photo shoots, social media, and an opportunity to share their story in our community forums.
The concept began when Lesley Jacobs was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2010. As she began to adjust to life as a cancer patient, Lesley quickly understood that many people have a difficult time approaching the subject of or individuals affected by cancer.
She felt, in short, like a Pink Elephant.
Together with her brother Dan, Lesley founded Pink Elephant Posse to advocate for the empowerment and hope of young cancer patients and survivors. Our community allows them to share their beauty and voice while inspiring others to do the same.
Almost two years later, we’re here. Listening. Watching. And giving every ounce of love we’ve got.
Much Love,
Pink Elephant Posse
SoundRabbit donated $500 toward a bar tab for the first 75 ticketed folks through the door, and we managed to raise $1,000 for PEP in ticket sales and an additional $200 in donations! Leslie and her family and friends worked so hard to promote the event in advance, joining us for flyering and online marketing, and they had the event room decked out in PEP colors, along with a slideshow of fighters and survivors up on the wall behind the band, and bright pink wigs were the fashion statement of the night. Our good friends in local band Full Belly volunteered their time to come out and play a set to start off the night. All in all, a fantastic time was had by everyone, a great cause got a boost in funding and some great exposure, and the SoundRabbit Backstage Community can be proud of your role in all of this. Thank you!
